If you are uncertain as to whether your level of competence is sufficient to participate in an international event, you are invited to take part in Preliminary Round free of charge. In the case that you are not selected to take part in the final, you will not be charged.

Two-stage formula

Experience the new competition formula. Free preliminaries give you the opportunity to test yourself in the competition. And after them, if you make it to the final it is up to you to decide if you want to participate.

International event

The Fenix Award represents one of the most significant international online music competitions, offering recognition and a distinctive opportunity to exhibit creativity and musical talent. We extend an invitation to classical musicians from across the globe.

Full Regulations of the FENIX AWARD:

  1. The FENIX AWARD International Music Competition is open to classical musicians of all ages from all over the world.

1.1. As the competition is based on online video submission, there are no travel or accommodation costs.

2. The competition has two rounds: The Preliminary Round and the Final Round.

2.1. Participation in the preliminary round is free of charge.

2.2. Those contestants who make it to the Final Round will be required to pay an administrative fee of 85.5 euros. This fee is non-refundable.

3. The competition will take place according to the following schedule:

Entries accepted until: 10 February 2025
Preliminary Round: 11-13 February
Notification of results: 14 February
Acceptance of entries for the Final Round: 14 to 18 February
Final Round: 19 to 24 February
Announcement of Results: 25 February 2025

4. The FENIX AWARD International Music Competition accepts entries in the following categories:

SOLO (All types of solo instruments or voices)

Piano and other keyboard instruments
Stringed instruments
Woodwind instruments
Brass instruments
Percussion instruments
Traditional instruments
Opera voice of any kind

CHAMBER MUSIC (Chamber ensembles of all kinds)

COMPOSITION (Composers, all styles)

CONDUCTING (Orchestra, choir)

POP MUSIC (vocal or instrumental)

5. AGE GROUPS:

A: 7 years and under

B: 8-9 years old

C: 10-11 y.o.

D: 12-13 y.o.

E: 14-15 y.o.

F: 16-17 y.o.

G: 18-20 y.o.

H: 21-25 y.o.

I: 26 and over

Age of the competitor at the current closing date.
Age groups apply to solo instrumentalists ONLY.

6. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

A. Contestants will be asked to submit a video recording of their performance (YouTube or similar platform link) via our online application form on the “Apply” page.

B. The video must clearly show the musician(s) performing* the repertoire they wish to present at the competition.

*The exception is the ‘Composition‘ category: video performance is welcome, but you can also submit audio only.

C. There is no minimum length requirement for the video. The maximum length of the entire application presentation should not exceed 25 minutes, with the jury having the right to listen to only the first 10 minutes if they consider this sufficient.

D. The contestant has a free choice of repertoire for each category.

E. One entry per category is possible. If a participant wishes to enter more than one category, they must complete the form again. If a participant enters the same category more than once, the organisers will take the most recent entry into account.

F. The same recording used for the preliminary round will be used for the final round. Although we allow for the possibility of changing a recording for the final round at the participant’s request

G. A single movement or a selection of movements from a cyclical form such as a sonata, suite, etc. may be submitted.

H. The video recordings cannot be edited, but an introduction stating the name of the musician, the title of the piece and the composer would be appreciated.

I. Composers may enter by submitting recordings played by someone else. They may also submit audio recordings played by computer software.

J. Entries may be solo, accompanied or a mixture of accompanied and unaccompanied pieces.

K. The video description should include the name of the musician, the composer and the title of the piece.

L. The settings for YouTube video(s) should be as follows:

  • YouTube videos should be set to ‘Public’ or ‘Unlisted’. The same applies to other sites such as Vimeo, BiliBili, etc.
  • Please do NOT select “Private”. If your video is private, the judges will not be able to view your entry.
  • We do not accept files for download.

7. EVALUATION AND JURY:

7.1. The evaluation consists of 100 points, divided into 5 components of 20 points each:

  • Technical ability
  • Personality
  • Musicality
  • Interpretation and artistic vision
  • Professionalism of preparation

7.2. The jury will select the Absolute Winners, Platinum Winners, Gold Winners, Silver Winners, Bronze Winners and Honorable Mentions based on the total of points.

7.3. Competitors will be judged by a jury of world-class musicians (educators, experts, performers). In order to maintain impartiality, the names of the jury members will not be made public.

7.4. A juror will not judge a contestant who turns out to be his or her student.

7.5. The minimum number of judges for a category is 3.

7.6. The judges’ decisions are final and irrevocable.

8. PRIZES:

8.1. The following Prizes will be awarded: Absolute Winners, Platinum Winners, Gold Winners, Silver Winners, Bronze Winners and Honorable Mentions in each category and age group.

8.2. Absolute Winners:

will have the opportunity to be interviewed in a music magazine published by our Universal Music Society
will have their winning video published on our website
will have created posters for their personal use, containing their photo and achievements
will have their photo and video posted in Winner’s gallery in Universal Music Society website

8.3. Platinum Winners:

will have their names listed on Universal Music Society website
will have created posters for their personal use, containing their photo and achievements
will have their photo posted on the „Results” page
receive their diploma in ready to print format

8.4. Gold Winners:

will have created posters for their personal use, containing their photo and achievements
will be listed on the „Results” page
receive their diploma in ready to print format

8.5. Silver and Bronze Winners:

receive their diploma in ready to print format
will be listed on the „Results” page

8.6. All winners can also request diplomas for their teachers.

9. Disclaimer

9.1. The organisers reserve the right to change the regulations if necessary. Any changes will be communicated to registered participants as soon as possible.

9.2. By entering, I agree to receive emails from the Universal Maestro Society. I understand that these messages may include updates, newsletters, event notifications and other information related to the activities of the Society. I understand that I may unsubscribe from these emails at any time by following the instructions in the emails.

9.3 By taking part in the competition, participants agree to the possible publication and publicity of their recordings and photos submitted for promotional purposes. The organisers reserve the right to edit and crop photos submitted for publication on the Internet.
